Ukraine needs to adopt the law on the state language which would make proper emphases once and for all: Ukrainian language is the state language, all other ones are languages of national minorities. That is said in the statement of the Christian Democratic Union Party, the press service reports.
The CDU believes that some light-fingered politicians still want to achieve doubtful points speculating on the language issue: “Unfortunately, they do not realize that the whole state is harmed in that way, as the state’s power is in its unity. first of all, that applies to the spiritual and mental unity”.
The CDU reminded that the recently adopted changes to the law “On TV and Radio Broadcasting” threatened Ukrainian language in broadcasting. “The adopted changes knocked out Ukrainian products of culture. According to the changes, radio stations are obliged to fill the broadcasting with the songs made in Ukraine only by 25%; and that does not mean the songs are to be in Ukrainian. Thus, Ukrainian language may disappear from the air of radio stations”.
“First of all, high officials are to protect their language and prevent adoption of such disgraceful laws. Secondly, they should adopt a law which would distinguish the state language and all other ones represented in Ukraine. That would allow not only popularize Ukrainian language, but also provide rights of national minorities for development of own cultures,” the Board’s statement reads.
